Richland Crash Claims Dylan Stills After Car Slams Into Pole on George Washington Way

The quiet hours before sunrise turned tragic Friday morning in Richland after a violent crash at one of the city’s busiest intersections left a 23-year-old man dead. Police said the wreck happened just before 4 a.m. near George Washington Way and Jadwin Avenue, where a southbound vehicle lost control on a slight curve and slammed directly into a streetlight pole.

Authorities later identified the driver as Dylan Stills through information shared by loved ones in a GoFundMe fundraiser created after the crash. Friends and family described him as a bright young man with a sharp sense of humor and a personality that easily filled a room. The fundraiser said he loved superheroes, enjoyed making people laugh, and deeply cared for his dog, Daisy.

According to investigators, the impact was so severe that the vehicle destroyed a city basalt sign and crumpled the streetlight pole at the intersection. Pieces of the car were scattered across the roadway, painting a heartbreaking scene across the normally busy stretch of Richland streets. The damaged chassis eventually came to rest on the opposite side of Jadwin Avenue.

Police officers and city crews rushed to the intersection while much of the city was still asleep. Large sections of both George Washington Way and Jadwin Avenue were shut down for hours as investigators worked through the debris and tried to piece together exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the crash.

City officials later confirmed that George Washington Way reopened within hours after the wreckage was cleared. Jadwin Avenue, however, remained closed longer because crews had to repair the heavily damaged streetlight infrastructure left behind by the collision.

As word of Dylan’s death spread through the community, tributes quickly followed online. Many people remembered him as hardworking, talented, and deeply caring beneath his playful personality. The fundraiser noted that he touched many lives and would be greatly missed by those who knew him best.

For many in Richland, the tragedy became another painful reminder of how quickly life can change in a single moment. What started as an ordinary early Friday morning ended with flashing lights, shattered concrete, and a grieving family now preparing to say goodbye to someone they believed still had so much life ahead of him.
