Police said the wreck happened just before 4 a.m. near George Washington Way and Jadwin Avenue, where a southbound vehicle lost control on a slight curve and slammed directly into a streetlight pole.
Authorities later identified the driver as Dylan Stills through information shared by loved ones in a GoFundMe fundraiser created after the crash. Friends and family described him as a bright young man with a sharp sense of humor and a personality that easily filled a room. The fundraiser said he loved superheroes, enjoyed making people laugh, and deeply cared for his dog, Daisy.
According to investigators, the impact was so severe that the vehicle destroyed a city basalt sign and crumpled the streetlight pole at the intersection. Pieces of the car were scattered across the roadway, painting a heartbreaking scene across the normally busy stretch of Richland streets. The damaged chassis eventually came to rest on the opposite side of Jadwin Avenue.
