Jalil Jones, Jonesboro: A vibrant 16-year-old kid is stolen from his family in a brutal street shooting that left an entire neighborhood living in fear.

It is a heartbreaking reality that hits way too close to home. A young life full of promise was cut short right in his own town. A regular Friday evening turned into a total nightmare, leaving a local family completely shattered.

The trouble started around 6:00 p.m. That was when the usual weekend peace was broken in the 800 block of Mt. Zion Road. Gunfire suddenly rang out near the 850 mark, changing the community forever in just a few seconds.

Clayton County police officers rushed over to the block after the emergency calls started flying in. When they pulled up to the scene, they found a teenage boy lying on the ground. He was suffering from a very serious gunshot wound.

First responders did everything they possibly could right there on the pavement to keep him alive. They quickly loaded him into an ambulance. They rushed him to a nearby hospital while praying for a miracle.

Sadly, the injuries were just too severe for the young man to survive. Despite the best efforts of the doctors and emergency staff, the teenager passed away a short time later.

The Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office later delivered the official, devastating news to the public. They confirmed that the boy who lost his life was 16-year-old Jalil Jones. He was a resident of Jonesboro.

This sudden loss has poured gasoline on the growing worries about youth violence across the metro Atlanta area. Right now, Jalil’s family and friends are left with a massive hole in their hearts. They are desperately waiting for answers.
