Edmond Arcadia Lake Shooting Leaves Avianna Smith-Gray Dead as Jaylan Davis Faces Murder Charge

What started as a crowded weekend party at Arcadia Lake in Edmond turned into one of the deadliest shootings the community has seen in years. By the end of the night, 18-year-old Avianna Smith-Gray was dead, 22 others were hurt, and terrified young people were running for cover as bullets flew through the campground.

Police say the violence broke out Sunday night during a large gathering known on social media as “Sunday Funday.” The event reportedly drew around 100 young people from across the Oklahoma City metro area. Investigators said the party was not officially permitted and officers were already heading to the scene after receiving a noise complaint when gunfire suddenly erupted.

Authorities say more than 80 rounds were fired during the chaos. Witnesses described panic spreading instantly as people dove behind cars, picnic tables, and trees while shots echoed across the lake area. Several victims suffered gunshot wounds while others were injured by flying shrapnel. Some of the victims were as young as 15 years old.

Edmond Police later identified 18-year-old Jaylan Davis, also known as “3zzy,” as a suspect in the shooting. Investigators said multiple witnesses and victims identified Davis after the attack. Court records state the violence grew out of a gang-related dispute that escalated after an argument between two women.

According to investigators, a Glock 9mm handgun and a rifle were both used during the shooting. During a search of Davis’ home, police reportedly recovered rifle ammunition matching shell casings found at the scene. Authorities believe multiple shooters were involved and said at least one more suspect may still be outstanding.

Davis eventually turned himself in after an arrest warrant was issued. He was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on charges including assault and battery with a deadly weapon. Officials said the charges are expected to be upgraded to felony murder following the death of Smith-Gray. His bond was set at $1 million, and a judge ordered GPS monitoring if he is released.

Family and friends of Avianna Smith-Gray are now mourning a young woman they described as caring, full of life, and excited about her future. Her death has shaken many in the Edmond community, especially because so many of the victims were teenagers and young adults simply trying to enjoy a weekend night with friends.

Police Chief J.D. Younger said investigators are focused on finding justice for every victim connected to the shooting. Detectives continue gathering evidence, reviewing witness statements, and tracking down additional suspects as the investigation remains active. Authorities are also urging anyone with information, photos, or videos from the party to come forward.

For many residents, the tragedy has left lasting questions about safety, youth violence, and how quickly a small dispute turned into a scene of mass bloodshed. What should have been a carefree night by the lake instead became a crime scene lit by police sirens and heartbreak.
