The crash happened around 12:05 a.m. on I-65, about five miles northwest of Dodge City in Cullman County, Alabama. It was a quiet stretch of road when the incident occurred.

Authorities said Hakeem X. Collins was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck at the time of the crash. The vehicle suddenly left the roadway.
After leaving the road, the truck struck a tree with strong impact. The crash happened fast, giving little chance for recovery or escape.
Troopers reported that he was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash. That detail became a key part of the investigation.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved, and no other injuries were reported in the incident.
