A late-night motorcycle ride through Sioux Falls ended in tragedy when two local men lost their lives in a devastating crash on Russell Street.
Police have identified the victims as 56-year-old Erik Boyles and 55-year-old Travis Gallop, both longtime Sioux Falls residents. Authorities said the fatal collision happened around 9:19 p.m. on June 5 near the intersection of Russell Street and Kiwanis Avenue on the city’s west side.

According to investigators, Boyles and Gallop were riding separate Harley-Davidson motorcycles and traveling westbound together on Russell Street. As the riders approached a curve in the roadway, one motorcycle appeared to strike the other while both men attempted to navigate the bend.
The impact sent both motorcycles out of control. Investigators said the bikes traveled into the center median and guardrail area, causing catastrophic injuries to both riders.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene after reports of a serious motorcycle crash. First responders worked quickly to help the victims, but the injuries proved fatal. Authorities later confirmed that both men died as a result of the collision.
Police said the two riders had been traveling together before the crash and were believed to be enjoying an evening ride when the accident occurred. The loss has shaken family members, friends, and members of the local motorcycle community.
Investigators continue to examine what led to the deadly collision. Speed is being considered as a possible contributing factor, while toxicology testing is underway to determine whether alcohol or drugs played any role. Officials have emphasized that the investigation remains active.
As loved ones mourn the sudden deaths of both men, support has begun to pour in for their families. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help Gallop’s family cover funeral expenses and other unexpected costs during this difficult time.
The tragedy serves as a painful reminder of how quickly a routine ride can turn deadly. For many in Sioux Falls, the deaths of Erik Boyles and Travis Gallop have left behind a deep sense of loss and heartbreak.
