Darrell F. Watson, an 86-year-old man from Ashville, Alabama, lost his life in a single-vehicle crash that unfolded on a quiet Tuesday morning in St. Clair County County. The incident has left a small community reflecting on how quickly an ordinary drive turned fatal.
According to Alabama State Troopers, Watson was behind the wheel of a Kia Sportage when the crash happened at about 8 a.m. He was traveling along U.S. 411, roughly one mile north of Ashville.

Investigators said the vehicle left the roadway for reasons that are still not fully clear. Once it departed the highway, it struck a tree with significant force.
Emergency responders arrived and rushed Watson to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Despite efforts to save him, he later died from his injuries.
Officials confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the crash. The scene was contained to the single vehicle and the tree it impacted.
Trooper Jaylon James noted that the investigation remains active. Authorities are still working to understand what caused the vehicle to veer off the road that morning.
For those who knew Watson, the news has been difficult to absorb. An 86-year life ending on a routine drive has added a quiet weight to an already somber situation.
