ROANOKE RAPIDS: Priscilla Kee Dies After Parking Lot Argument Turns Deadly

Just after midnight on Sunday, Priscilla Kee, 56, was shot and later died following an argument in a parking lot in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. The unsettling confrontation unfolded in the lot of the Kirkwood Adams Civic Center near 11th and Hamilton streets. Police say the exchange between Kee and a man ended in gunfire, leaving the community shaken.

Officers from the Roanoke Rapids Police Department were called to the scene around 12:05 a.m. after reports of gunshots. When they arrived, they found Kee with at least one gunshot wound and another person, later identified as Willie Holmes, fleeing on foot. Patrol officers and first responders quickly went to work amid the chaos.

Medical personnel rushed Kee to ECU Medical Center, but her injuries proved too severe. She was pronounced dead later that morning. Friends and family described her as a quiet presence in the community, someone who looked out for neighbors and brightened a room with her smile. Her loss is now being mourned across Halifax County.

Police pursued Holmes a few blocks away, catching him near the intersection of 11th and Jackson streets. Officers say he was carrying a firearm when taken into custody. Holmes, also 56, was arrested on the spot and later charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Holmes was denied bond and is being held at the Halifax County Detention Center as detectives continue to unravel exactly what sparked the argument and led to the deadly shooting. So far, investigators believe the fatal shot was fired during a heated exchange between the two adults.
