Fairview Teen Star Grant Charged After Parents, Grandmother Found Shot Dead Inside Family Home

A quiet neighborhood in Fairview, North Carolina, has been left shaken after deputies said three members of the same family were found shot to death inside their home, leading to murder charges against a teenage daughter and a 28-year-old man.

Investigators with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to a home on Ashworth Drive around 7:15 p.m. Thursday for a welfare check after relatives became worried when they could not reach the family. When deputies entered the house, they found 41-year-old Travis Eugene Grant, 42-year-old Kimberly Michelle Grant, and 66-year-old Sharon Harwood Grant dead from gunshot wounds.

Authorities later confirmed that Sharon Grant was Travis Grant’s mother. Investigators also identified 16-year-old Star Grant as the daughter of Travis and Kimberly Grant. Officials said the teen was missing from the home when the bodies were discovered.

According to investigators, law enforcement agencies in North Carolina and Tennessee worked together overnight to track Star Grant and 28-year-old Devan Loving to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The pair were found at a hotel early Friday morning and taken into custody without incident.

Buncombe County authorities announced that both Star Grant and Loving now face three counts of first-degree murder along with one count of felony conspiracy to commit murder. Even though Star is 16 years old, officials said she will be charged as an adult because of the seriousness of the case.

The killings stunned neighbors in Fairview, a mountain community just outside Asheville where violent crimes of this scale are rare. What makes the case even more heartbreaking for many residents is that the victims were all immediate family members living under the same roof.

Court records also showed that Travis Grant legally adopted Star Grant in 2019, adding another painful layer to a case that investigators say is still unfolding. Authorities have not released a motive, and officials said the relationship between Star Grant and Loving has not yet been publicly explained.

Sheriff’s officials said there is no ongoing threat to the public, but they described the investigation as active and continuing. The two suspects were expected to remain in Tennessee while extradition proceedings moved forward before they are returned to North Carolina to face the charges.

The deaths of Travis, Kimberly, and Sharon Grant have left many people in the Fairview community searching for answers, struggling to understand how a family tragedy this devastating could happen behind the doors of what once appeared to be an ordinary home.
