Malvern, Pennsylvania: Nikki Hinsdale’s Sudden Death Leaves Malvern Prep Community Rallying Around Young Son

The halls and pool decks at Malvern Preparatory School feel a little quieter this week after the sudden death of beloved aquatics coach Nicole “Nikki” Hinsdale. Friends, students, parents, and fellow coaches across the Malvern community are now coming together to support the one person she loved most — her young son, Boone.

School officials and family friends launched a GoFundMe campaign titled “Supporting Boone’s Future in Nikki’s Memory” following Hinsdale’s unexpected death on May 7. The fundraiser was created to help provide financial support and long-term care for Boone as his family faces an unimaginable loss.

The campaign quickly gained attention across the Malvern Prep and swimming communities. Organizers originally hoped to raise $50,000, but donations poured in so fast that the fundraiser passed its goal within days. Messages attached to the donations painted the same picture over and over again — a coach who gave everything she had to the people around her.

“As many of you already know, the Hinsdale and Walls families and the Malvern Prep Community unexpectedly lost a daughter, wife, colleague, coach, and, most importantly, a mother on May 7, 2026,” the fundraiser page stated. “Nicole ‘Nikki’ Hinsdale was a beloved coach and an essential part of the Malvern Swim Association.”

For many families, Hinsdale was more than a swim coach. Parents described her as patient, uplifting, and deeply invested in the lives of young swimmers. Students remembered her as the kind of coach who could push athletes hard while still making them feel safe and supported. Her love for swimming was obvious, but people closest to her said her greatest pride was always her family.

According to her Malvern Swim Association profile, Hinsdale joined the coaching staff in the fall of 2013 before later becoming Aquatics Manager at Malvern Prep. She graduated from Kutztown University in 2012 with a degree in Environmental Geography and spent years teaching swim lessons and clinics. Outside the pool, she was also a certified yoga instructor.

Friends said Hinsdale carried a calming presence wherever she went. Whether she was coaching on deck or helping students through difficult moments, she had a way of making people feel seen. That impact became clear online as hundreds of heartfelt tributes flooded social media after news of her death spread through the community.

But at the center of every tribute was Boone, the little boy Hinsdale leaves behind. Organizers behind the fundraiser said the mission now is to make sure Boone grows up surrounded by the same love his mother gave so freely to others. Many donors said contributing to the campaign felt like a way to honor Nikki’s life while helping secure her son’s future.

As Malvern Prep students and families continue grieving, many say Hinsdale’s legacy will live far beyond swimming records or practices. They say it will live in the countless young athletes she encouraged, the families she supported, and the son who will grow up hearing story after story about the woman his mother was.
