The quiet rhythm of a Thursday afternoon in Bismarck was shattered when a devastating crash at a busy intersection claimed the life of 30-year-old Keanu Nochta. What began as a routine drive quickly turned into a tragedy that has left a community shaken and searching for answers.
The collision happened around 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Centennial Road and Century Avenue. According to police, a commercial flatbed truck and a Chevrolet Impala entered the intersection at the same time. Within seconds, the truck slammed into the passenger side of the car, triggering a violent impact that crushed part of the vehicle.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene shortly after the crash was reported, arriving around 2:40 p.m. First responders worked quickly, navigating twisted metal and debris to reach those inside. The damage to the Impala was severe, and the situation was immediately described as critical.
Keanu Nochta, who was driving the Impala, suffered life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where medical teams fought to save him. Despite those efforts, he later died, turning a serious crash into a fatal one.
Inside the same vehicle was a 10-year-old child seated in the back. The child had to be carefully pulled from the wreckage by emergency personnel, a process that underscored the intensity of the crash. Though injured, officials say the child is expected to recover, offering a small measure of relief in an otherwise heartbreaking situation.
The driver of the flatbed truck, a 21-year-old man from Mandan, was not injured. Authorities have not indicated any immediate charges or fault, as the investigation remains ongoing.
