The morning started like any other in Gainesville. But within minutes, everything changed for one family. Eight-year-old Bella Robles and her five-year-old brother, Max, are now in critical condition after a violent crash that unfolded just after sunrise.
The collision happened around 7:20 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of State Road 24 and Southwest 122nd Street in Alachua County. Authorities say a 17-year-old driver from Newberry was behind the wheel of a sport utility vehicle, waiting in a northbound left-turn lane. As she attempted to turn, her SUV entered the intersection and slammed into a southbound sedan.

That sedan was being driven by 38-year-old Theresa Robles of Gainesville. The impact struck the front right side of her car, leaving little protection for the passengers inside. Bella and Max, who were riding in the vehicle, took the worst of the crash.
Both children were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Officials later confirmed they were not wearing seat belts at the time. Their injuries were severe enough to require immediate intensive care, and both remain intubated as doctors work to stabilize them.
Despite the force of the crash, the drivers involved escaped with only minor injuries. The teenage driver of the SUV was wearing a seat belt. Theresa Robles, the children’s mother, was not restrained, according to investigators, but still avoided life-threatening harm.
As the family faces an uncertain road ahead, loved ones have stepped in to help. A fundraiser organized by Brandon Robles identified the injured children and painted a clearer picture of the struggle their parents are now facing. Angel and Teresa Robles have remained at the hospital, unable to work as they stay close to their children’s bedsides.
The fundraiser has already gathered significant support, raising nearly $8,000 toward its $20,000 goal. Each donation reflects a community rallying around a family caught in a moment no one ever expects, but many fear.
For now, Bella and Max remain in critical care. Their fight is just beginning, and their family, along with a growing number of supporters, is holding on to hope through every passing hour.
