Harris County: Marlon Sanders, a 36-year-old music teacher, was killed in a sudden shooting during what was supposed to be a routine custody exchange in northeast Harris County on Tuesday.
Sanders, who taught music at Adams Elementary School in Port Arthur ISD, arrived at the 12700 block of Blue Timbers Court with his wife to pick up a child. What should have been a simple handover turned deadly in seconds.

Investigators say Sanders was standing near a vehicle on the street when 38-year-old Gary Davis allegedly rushed out and opened fire. Sanders was struck during the attack and collapsed at the scene.
Emergency responders from Harris County Precinct 3 arrived quickly and provided aid. Sanders was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors later pronounced him dead despite all efforts to save him.
Authorities confirmed that no other person was physically harmed during the incident, even though multiple people were present during the exchange.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office homicide unit processed the scene shortly after, collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses in an effort to piece together what led to the shooting.
School officials later confirmed Sanders’ identity and described him as a dedicated educator, coach, and musician who was actively involved in student programs, including sports and school activities.
Gary Davis was taken into custody at the scene and charged with murder. He was booked into the Harris County Jail as detectives continued their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.
Detectives have not released further details about the motive, but the case remains active as investigators review statements and evidence from the scene
