Des Moines Apartment Shooting: Ashley Marie Hall Killed Near VA Medical Center

Des Moines — A quiet night in a neighborhood near the VA Medical Center turned deadly when a woman was found shot inside an apartment early Friday morning. The victim was identified as 36-year-old Ashley Marie Hall of Des Moines. The incident unfolded on 30th Street in the Prospect Park area, just a short distance from the VA facility.

Police say officers were called to the scene around 3 a.m. after a 911 report of a person shot. The call came from an apartment close to 3600 30th St. When officers arrived, they found Hall inside the residence. She had suffered apparent gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The area, normally described as quiet and residential, quickly filled with police lights and investigators. Authorities treated the location as an active homicide scene. Evidence was collected while officers secured the building and began speaking with potential witnesses.

Investigators confirmed the case is being handled as a homicide. At this early stage, officials released few details about what led to the shooting. There was no immediate explanation of what triggered the violence inside the apartment.

On Saturday, police announced an arrest in connection with the killing. The suspect was identified as 46-year-old Sharneeka Evans. She has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Hall’s death.

Authorities said Evans was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, but they did not release additional information about how events unfolded leading up to the arrest. The motive remains unclear, and investigators are still working to piece together what happened inside the apartment.

Police noted that no other people were reported injured in the incident. They also urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward as the investigation continues.
