Tony Gales Macon: Fatal late-night crash at Knoxville Road intersection ends in sudden death

Tony Gales, a 52-year-old man from Georgia, was killed late Thursday night after a two-vehicle crash in south Macon. The incident happened at the intersection of Knoxville Road and Bethel Church Road, an area known for steady commuter traffic.

Authorities said the crash involved a Nissan Altima and an Audi SUV. Investigators believe the Altima was traveling south on Knoxville Road while the Audi SUV was moving through the intersection from Bethel Church Road when both vehicles collided.

Gales was a passenger inside the Nissan Altima at the time of the crash. He was not driving. Emergency responders arrived quickly and transported him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.

Despite efforts by medical staff, Gales later died from his injuries. Officials confirmed his death shortly after he arrived at the hospital.

Other people involved in the crash, including the drivers of both vehicles, were not reported to have suffered serious injuries. Authorities stated that no additional injuries were recorded at the scene.

The crash took place around 10 p.m., a time when visibility and traffic flow can shift quickly in that part of Macon. The intersection sits in a mixed area of residential streets and commercial routes, often used by local drivers moving across south Bibb County.

Investigators are still reviewing the circumstances that led to the collision. At this stage, officials have not confirmed which driver had the right of way or whether speed, distraction, or other factors played a role.
