Carleton Merrill Paris Maine: Speed, Split-Second Move Ends in Fatal Motorcycle Crash

Carleton Merrill, Paris Maine: A late afternoon ride on Route 26 turned deadly in western Maine when a 33-year-old man lost his life after a violent motorcycle crash.

Carleton Merrill of Mexico, Maine was operating a 2025 Kawasaki motorcycle when the crash unfolded around 1:30 p.m. on Route 26, also known locally as Park Street in Paris.

That split-second maneuver did not hold. The motorcycle left the roadway and slammed into an embankment, sending the rider into a serious impact.

Emergency crews arrived quickly and found Merrill with severe injuries. He was rushed to MaineHealth Stephens Memorial Hospital in nearby Norway for urgent treatment.

Despite medical efforts to save him, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. He was 33 years old.
Authorities have indicated that speed played a major role in the crash. No other injuries were reported, and no other vehicles were directly struck during the final impact.

Route 26, a busy stretch cutting through Oxford County, carries steady local and seasonal traffic, connecting small towns, outdoor areas, and commercial routes.

Officials say the investigation is still open as they work through the full sequence of what happened in those final seconds on the road.
