Deshler, Nebraska is grieving after a deadly workplace accident took the life of 35-year-old Trenton Fuentez at the Reinke Manufacturing facility on Wednesday afternoon. The incident has left coworkers and residents shaken, as a normal workday turned into a fatal emergency.
Authorities say emergency crews were called around 1:45 p.m. to the facility located at 1040 Road 5300 after reports of an industrial accident involving an employee. When responders arrived, they found that Fuentez had been seriously injured inside the plant’s pipe storage area.
Investigators reported that a bundle of pipes being hoisted inside the facility became unstable. As the load shifted, several large pipes broke loose and fell downward. Fuentez was working beneath the suspended materials at the time of the collapse.
The falling pipes struck him with severe force. Emergency personnel immediately attempted life-saving measures at the scene. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead due to the extent of his injuries.
Officials later confirmed that the incident is being treated as an accident. They also stated that no other workers were injured and there is no indication of foul play connected to the event.
The Thayer County Sheriff’s Office is still reviewing how the accident happened. Their focus includes the handling of materials, safety procedures inside the storage area, and how the load became dislodged during the operation.
Reinke Manufacturing leadership expressed deep sorrow over the loss. The company extended condolences to Fuentez’s family, friends, and coworkers, and confirmed that grief counseling support is being offered to employees affected by the tragedy.
