Upshur County, Texas — Nurse Practitioner Joel Mack Remembered After Diana Highway Crash Claims Two Lives

Upshur County, Texas is grieving after a deadly early morning crash on U.S. Highway 259 in the Diana area took the life of Joel Mack, a respected nurse practitioner whose work and kindness left a deep mark on the Longview community.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Authorities say Joel Mack was driving northbound when an SUV, driven by Kimberly Law, crossed into his path and struck his vehicle head-on.

Kimberly Law was pronounced dead at the scene. Mack was still alive when emergency crews arrived and was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent care, but he later died from his injuries.

Joel Mack worked at Hospitality Health ER in Longview and was known as one of the original members of their provider team. Colleagues described him as steady, skilled, and deeply committed to the people he cared for every day.

At the hospital, staff remembered him as someone who brought warmth into a high-pressure environment. He was the kind of professional who treated patients like family, and teammates say that was never just talk with him—it was how he lived.

His passing has left a painful gap among coworkers and patients who relied on him. Many in the medical community say his presence was both calming and dependable, especially in moments when people needed it most.

The loss has also rippled through his family and friends, who are now left with memories of a man described as generous, funny, and fully present in the lives of those he loved.

As investigations continue into the circumstances of the crash, the community is left holding onto what Joel Mack represented: service, compassion, and a quiet kind of strength that touched more lives than he probably ever realized.
