What began as a routine early morning drive turned into a heartbreaking mystery along Interstate 10 in St. Charles Parish, where 45-year-old Jonathan Terrell McFarland was ultimately found dead after being reported missing.
Authorities say McFarland, a resident of Collinston, was involved in a multi-vehicle crash around 1:30 a.m. on April 19, 2026. The crash happened on the eastbound side of I-10 near mile marker 220, drawing a response from Louisiana State Police, who began investigating the collision.

But the situation quickly grew more troubling. During the investigation, officials learned that McFarland had walked away from the crash scene on foot. That decision would trigger a search effort that stretched into the next day and raised serious concerns about his safety.
Deputies with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office launched an extensive search. Detectives retraced his possible movements, checking his hotel and the home of a friend he had planned to visit in New Orleans. McFarland had been in the area for work, and nothing initially suggested he intended to disappear.
Despite those efforts, there were no immediate signs of him. The uncertainty weighed heavily as hours passed without answers. Then, the following morning, search teams expanded their efforts into nearby terrain.
In a somber discovery, deputies and members of the Sheriff’s Office Marine Division found McFarland’s body in a swampy area near the I-10 and I-310 split. The location was roughly a quarter mile from where the crash had occurred, suggesting he had not made it far.
His remains were transported to the Jefferson Parish Forensic Center, where an autopsy is expected to determine exactly how he died. For now, officials have not confirmed the cause, leaving key questions unanswered.
Investigators say the case remains open as they work to piece together McFarland’s final moments. What is clear is that a man who set out for a simple visit never made it to his destination, leaving behind a quiet but deeply unsettling story.
