Jesse Southard, 20, from Birmingham, and April Ballard, 36, from Leeds, were identified as the victims. Both were pronounced dead after the crash. Families on both sides were left facing sudden and painful loss.
The crash happened around 3 a.m. on Friday, April 24. Investigators say Ballard was driving a truck southbound but in the northbound lanes of I-65. That wrong-way movement set up the deadly impact.
Southard was traveling in the correct direction when the collision happened. The vehicles met head-on at high force. The impact left both drivers with fatal injuries, with no chance of survival at the scene.
