Corpus Christi Anthony Rodriguez, 31, was killed on the city’s southside after a shooting that unfolded outside a local business on South Staples Street. The incident happened on April 23, 2026, just after 5:30 p.m., near Holly Road, an area that quickly turned into a crime scene as emergency crews rushed in.
Rodriguez was found by responding officers suffering from a gunshot wound outside Mr. Nice Guys. Police and paramedics tried to save his life right there on the scene. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.

The Nueces County Medical Examiner later confirmed his death and said his family had been notified. For those who knew him, the news landed hard and fast, turning an ordinary evening into one marked by grief.
Investigators say the shooting did not happen without warning. Before the gunfire, there had been a disturbance in the area. During that confrontation, a weapon was pulled, and the situation escalated quickly.
Early findings from police also suggest the possibility that a robbery may have been involved. However, officials have made it clear that the full picture is still being worked out as they continue to gather evidence and speak with witnesses.
The case has already led to an arrest. Nineteen-year-old Sebastian Carrillo Sosa was taken into custody and charged with murder as well as unlawful carrying of a weapon. He remains in jail while the investigation continues to develop.
Back in the community, people who knew Rodriguez are struggling to accept what happened. Friends and family are remembering him as someone whose life ended suddenly in a moment of violence that no one saw coming.
As Corpus Christi continues to process the tragedy, investigators are still piecing together exactly how the confrontation escalated so quickly. The focus now remains on understanding the events that led to Rodriguez’s death and supporting those left behind.
