Sullivan County, Tenn.: Duffield Teen Issac Griffin Lost in South Holston Lake Tragedy
Sullivan County, Tenn. — The quiet evening at South Holston Lake turned into a scene of heartbreak when 18-year-old Issac Griffin of Duffield lost his life in a drowning incident that has left two communities grieving.
It happened Thursday night near a pull-off along Highway 421 close to Shady Ford Road, a spot locals often use to reach the water. Around 7:30 p.m., emergency crews got a distress call reporting that someone had gone under the lake and did not resurface.
Witnesses said the young man entered the water and disappeared quickly beneath the surface. Panic set in almost immediately as people nearby realized he had not come back up.
