Dallas — Kayli Lopez, a 24-year-old woman, was killed Tuesday night in a shocking shooting in the Central Oak Cliff area of Dallas. Police say someone in another vehicle fired more than thirty‑six shots into the Cadillac SUV she was riding in around 7:45 p.m. near the Wynnewood Village shopping area on South Zang Boulevard. The barrage of bullets sent the SUV crashing into another car and left Lopez dead at a nearby hospital. The man with her, 21, survived his injuries and remains hospitalized. Police have not yet identified a suspect or motive, and no arrests have been made.
It was an ordinary Tuesday evening until the calm was shattered by gunfire so intense that neighbors reported hearing a rapid burst of bullets tearing through the quiet street. Lopez and her friend were driving when suddenly another vehicle pulled up alongside them and opened fire. In a matter of seconds, more than three dozen shots pierced their SUV, pinning the victims in a hail of metal and glass.

Emergency responders rushed to the 2200 block of South Zang Boulevard just before 8 p.m. and found the Cadillac riddled with bullet holes and crashed into another vehicle. Lopez was already unresponsive when officers reached her. Medics transported her to a hospital, but she did not survive. The 21‑year‑old male passenger, though seriously hurt, is expected to live.
Family and friends are reeling from the sudden loss. Lopez was remembered by loved ones as someone full of life, with plans and dreams that will now never be realized. Those who knew her describe a young woman with a warm smile and a bright presence that touched the people around her.
Detectives with the Dallas Police Department are combing the scene for clues. So far they have not released any description of a suspect vehicle or person. Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward as the search for answers continues.
This incident has rattled the Oak Cliff community, a neighborhood already grappling with its share of gun violence. Residents say the shooting serves as a painful reminder of how quickly life can be torn apart by senseless violence.
Police continue to treat this as an active investigation. Lopez’s death remains under review as detectives follow leads, piece together witness accounts, and examine physical evidence from the scene. In the meantime, her family and community mourn a promising life cut tragically short.
