A quiet stretch of State Road 60 in Plant City turned deadly late Friday night, leaving two families grieving after a sudden and violent crash claimed two lives in a matter of seconds.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 11:25 p.m. on April 17, just west of Horton Road. It involved a GMC Yukon driven by a 20-year-old man from Plant City and a 50-year-old woman who was also from the same community.

According to early findings, the young driver was heading westbound when the woman stepped into the roadway and moved directly into the path of the vehicle. Investigators say the driver tried to avoid her, but there was simply no time or space to stop what was already unfolding.
The SUV struck the woman, and the force of that impact sent the vehicle off the road. It then overturned in a violent sequence that turned a routine drive into a fatal scene.
During the crash, the driver was thrown from the vehicle. Authorities say both he and the pedestrian suffered severe injuries and were pronounced dead right there at the scene.
For residents in Plant City, the news has been heavy. Two lives lost in one moment, tied to a single tragic encounter on a dark roadway. It is the kind of incident that leaves more questions than answers.
Troopers are still working to understand exactly how everything lined up that night. As of now, no further details have been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
