Yazoo City — A quiet Monday evening on March 2 turned into a nightmare for families and neighbors when a violent two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Grand Avenue and 7th Street left two young people dead and two more seriously hurt.
Just after first responders reached the scene, they found two heavily wrecked vehicles tangled in the intersection. One of the cars had flipped onto its side, glass and metal scattered across the pavement. The driver of that car, 23-year-old Jordan Patterson, was unresponsive when officers arrived. Paramedics worked on her at the scene, but she was pronounced dead before she could be moved.

Backseat passenger 27-year-old Michael Cole was found a few feet away from the overturned vehicle. Investigators say he had been thrown from the car during the violent crash. Emergency crews immediately administered aid, but Cole also died at the scene. Both young people were well known to friends and family in the tight-knit community, and news of their deaths spread quickly across Yazoo City.
A passenger in one of the vehicles survived and was taken to Baptist Medical Center in Yazoo for treatment of significant injuries. The driver of the other vehicle suffered serious trauma and was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Police have not released details on what caused the crash, and the Yazoo City Police Department continues to investigate. Authorities are piecing together what led to the deadly collision, talking to witnesses and gathering evidence from the scene.
Neighbors described the intersection as usually calm before dusk, a place where residents walk pets or drive home from work. Monday’s crash shattered that sense of ordinary life, leaving behind grieving families, friends, and an entire community struggling to make sense of the sudden loss of two young lives.
Funeral services and memorials for both Patterson and Cole are being planned, as loved ones remember their bright spirits and the moments they shared. In the meantime, condolences and support are pouring in from across town for those left behind.
