BIRMINGHAM — Brionn Arronjaae Orr, 25, was shot and killed late Tuesday night on Roscoe Avenue in the city’s Kingston neighborhood. Officers were sent to the area after gunfire was detected just before midnight and learned a man had been taken to UAB Hospital, where he died hours later.
Police say the shooting happened around 11:42 p.m. at an apartment near the Rev. Dr. Morrell Todd Homes. Orr was brought to the hospital by a private vehicle, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Investigators have detained a suspect in connection with the case and that person is in the Birmingham City Jail as the probe continues.

Friends and family described Orr as someone with a bright spirit who cared about the people around him. Those who knew him said his passing has left a deep sense of loss in the Kingston community, where neighbors are struggling to make sense of the violence so close to home.
This is not the first shooting on this block in recent weeks. Just over a month ago another young man, 23‑year‑old Cornelius Lee Evans, was killed near the same location. In that earlier case two individuals have been charged with capital murder, highlighting the troubling trend of gun violence in this part of Birmingham.
Police officials confirm Orr’s death brings the city’s homicide count to 12 so far this year. Throughout Jefferson County, authorities have recorded 19 homicides, with Birmingham accounting for the majority. Officers continue to urge anyone with information to reach out to investigators.
Today, community members are planning informal gatherings to remember Orr and support his loved ones. There are calls for greater cooperation between residents and police to prevent further tragedies and to honor his memory in a way that brings healing rather than more fear.
