Shorewood, Ill. — A quiet stretch of Route 59 turned deadly Thursday night when 18-year-old Isaak G. Torres of Joliet lost his life in a two-vehicle crash near Hammel Woods.
The crash happened around 10:15 p.m., according to local authorities. Two vehicles were involved, each driven by a single occupant traveling through Shorewood at the time of the collision.

Torres, an 18-year-old from Joliet, was identified as the victim by the Will County Coroner’s Office. He was rushed to Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet after emergency crews arrived at the scene.
Despite efforts by medical staff, Torres was pronounced dead at 11:04 p.m. inside the hospital. His death has left a young life cut short in circumstances still under review.
Officials confirmed that the second driver, a 23-year-old Joliet man, also involved in the crash, survived. He suffered minor injuries and was treated before being released.
Investigators said both drivers were alone in their vehicles when the crash occurred. The exact sequence of events leading to the impact has not yet been made clear.
The Shorewood Police Department is handling the investigation. Authorities are still working to determine what caused the collision and whether any contributing factors were involved.
An autopsy has been completed, but officials say the final determination of death and full findings will depend on ongoing investigative work and toxicology results.
