Lawrence County Tragedy: Brynleigh Pledger Dies After Crash That Took Mother, Twin Sister

The quiet roads of Lawrence County turned into a scene of deep loss this week, as 7-year-old Brynleigh Pledger lost her fight for life days after a devastating crash that had already claimed her twin sister, her mother, and her brother. The family shared the heartbreaking update on Wednesday, confirming what many had feared since the accident.

The crash happened on April 11 at the intersection of Highways 157 and 24 near Moulton. Authorities say a Chevrolet Suburban carrying the family collided with a Ford F-150. The impact was severe. Brynleigh’s twin sister, Bryleigh Pledger, and her 13-year-old brother, Bryant Ballew, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their mother, 33-year-old Ashley Hagood, was rushed to Parkway Medical Center in Decatur, where she later died.

Brynleigh was pulled from the wreck with critical injuries. Early updates from her father, Tyler Pledger, painted a fragile picture. She had undergone surgery and was battling brain swelling. Her family held on to hope, asking for prayers and what they called a miracle. For days, that hope kept them going.

But as time passed, the outlook became more painful. In a joint message shared by Tyler and Miranda Pledger, the family revealed that Brynleigh’s condition had worsened beyond recovery. They described the damage to her brain as too severe, saying machines were doing all the work to keep her alive.

“Our baby girl fought so hard,” the family wrote. “But her little body is tired. The damage has taken its toll.” The words carried the weight of a family forced to make an unthinkable decision, letting go while still holding on in spirit.

In the middle of the grief, the family found a way to give back. They shared that Brynleigh would become an organ donor, calling it her final gift to others. It was a small light in an otherwise dark moment, a way to turn loss into something that might save another life.

Meanwhile, Brynleigh’s brother, Bentley Pledger, who also survived the crash, remains in serious condition at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham. His fight continues, adding another layer of uncertainty for a family already overwhelmed with sorrow.

The family described their pain as something beyond words. Still, they spoke about faith and the belief that the twins are reunited with their mother and brother. “We know we will be okay,” they said, “but getting there is going to take time.” For now, Lawrence County mourns with them, holding close the memory of a young girl whose life, though short, left a lasting mark.
