Stockton California — The city is mourning the loss of Damon Richard James Owens, a 42-year-old man who died after a shooting early Tuesday morning in a quiet section of Stockton.
The incident happened on April 7, 2026, around 5:09 a.m. behind a Michaels store in the 7600 block of Pacific Avenue. Police say officers responded quickly after reports of gunfire in the area.

When officers arrived, they found Damon suffering from serious gunshot wounds. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Despite efforts by medical staff to save his life, Damon later died from his injuries. His death was confirmed by the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Early reports had incorrectly listed his age as 32, but officials later confirmed he was 42 years old.
