West Cocalico Township felt shock and sadness Friday afternoon when a routine drive turned into tragedy for 67‑year‑old John Miller of Stevens. Just after 4 p.m., Miller’s SUV suddenly veered off Mill Road, crossed a nearby field and slammed into the front of a home in the 100 block before erupting in flames. Emergency crews pulled up to the scene to find the vehicle on fire against the house, and despite immediate efforts, Miller was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors watched as fire crews battled the blaze and police closed portions of the rural road. The Lancaster County Coroner later confirmed Miller was alone in his vehicle and died from multiple traumatic injuries. His death was ruled an accident by authorities, with no evidence of foul play or criminal intent.
