INDIANAPOLIS EAST SIDE: Juelz Nance, 22, Dies After Late-Night Shooting on Brookside Parkway

Indianapolis — A young life ended late Friday night on the city’s near east side after a shooting that left a 22-year-old man dead. Police say the incident unfolded around 10:00 p.m. on May 1, 2026, in the 3600 block of Brookside Parkway South near North Sherman Drive.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded after multiple calls reported a person shot in the area. When they arrived, they found a man lying on the ground with gunshot wounds. He was still alive at the scene and rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency care.

Despite the efforts of medical staff, the man later died shortly after arriving at the hospital. His condition had been critical from the moment he was found, according to investigators.

On May 4, the Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 22-year-old Juelz Lamar Nance. His name now sits at the center of an investigation that has left more questions than answers in the neighborhood where the shooting happened.

Residents in the Brookside Parkway area described a tense scene that night as police secured the block. Officers cordoned off parts of the street while detectives began collecting evidence and speaking with people who may have seen or heard something.

At this stage, police have not released any information about a suspect. They have also not confirmed a motive, and say it is still too early in the investigation to determine what led to the shooting.

Detectives are continuing to piece together the final moments before the gunfire. Investigators are also reviewing witness statements and any available evidence from the scene in an effort to build a clearer picture of what happened.

IMPD is asking anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be shared directly with investigators or submitted anonymously through local crime reporting channels as the search for answers continues.
