Stacey-Lynn Kenny was only 19 years old. She had everything going for her. Then, a regular Monday night ride changed everything in a heartbeat.
It happened just past 8:30 p.m. on June 22. Stacey-Lynn was riding passenger on a motorcycle driven by her dad, Corey Kenny. They were cruising down Route 10 near Aquaforte when a massive moose stepped onto the asphalt. A nearby passenger car was also caught up in the chaotic wreck.

The impact was devastating. Emergency crews rushed to the scene as fast as they could. Sadly, both Stacey-Lynn and her 48-year-old father died right there on the road. The driver of the other car was checked out by medics but walked away without any major physical injuries.
Back home on the Southern Shore, the news hit like a freight train. Stacey-Lynn wasn’t just any regular teenager. She was a standout ball hockey player. She played for the NL Selects team under the Newfoundland and Labrador Ball Hockey Association. Her teammates knew her as a fierce competitor who always kept a positive attitude.
Over at Mobile Central High School, the mood is incredibly heavy right now. Teachers and students are remembering her for her kindness and deep commitment to the people around her. To honor her memory, folks in the community are hanging sports jerseys and hockey sticks on their front porches.
This wasn’t just a loss of an athlete, though. It was the loss of a daughter who was sharing a simple summer evening ride with her dad. Corey was known by everyone as a deeply devoted father. He always showed up for his family and worked hard every single day.
Local leaders are stepping up to comfort the family. District MHA Loyola O’Driscoll shared that the entire area is completely heartbroken over losing both Corey and Stacey-Lynn so suddenly. Right now, the whole town is coming together to wrap their arms around the surviving family members while funeral plans are being sorted out.
