SEYMOUR, Indiana — Earl Vaught Dies After Violent Rollover Crash Near U.S. 31

SEYMOUR, Indiana — Family, friends, and loved ones are grieving the sudden death of Earl Vaught, 42, who died Thursday evening after a severe single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 31.

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. in the 700 block of North U.S. 31. Deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department were called to the scene after reports of a serious wreck involving one vehicle.

When emergency crews arrived, they found a heavily damaged vehicle off the roadway. Authorities confirmed that Vaught, the driver, had suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson County Coroner’s Office.

Investigators believe Vaught was traveling southbound when the vehicle left the road. Early findings suggest he may have overcorrected, causing the car to cross both lanes of traffic before hitting a culvert or driveway.

The impact was severe. Officials said the vehicle went airborne for about 116 feet, then rolled multiple times before coming to rest along the roadside. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle moving at a high rate of speed moments before it left the roadway. Authorities have not confirmed all contributing factors and say the investigation is still ongoing.

In California, Kentucky, where Vaught was known and loved, the news has brought deep sadness. Friends and family are trying to process the sudden loss of a man they say meant a lot to many people in the community.

As the investigation continues, loved ones are focusing on remembering Earl Vaught’s life. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced, while the community continues to offer support to his family during this difficult time.
