Kalena Abelmann, Oahu: Tragic 50-foot ravine plunge cuts short the life of a beloved teen who spent her free time feeding the hungry.

A tight-knit community is mourning today after a horrific car accident took the life of a local teenager. Sixteen-year-old Kalena Abelmann died Thursday afternoon following a devastating single-car crash on the Pali Highway. The news has sent shockwaves through Windward Oahu as neighbors process the sudden loss.

Kalena was known by her friends and family as a bright light. People described her as incredibly courageous, creative, and always down for an adventure. She loved giving back to her community and spent a lot of her free time volunteering at a local food bank.

Her sudden passing leaves behind a completely shattered family. Her parents, Rick and Alicia, alongside her siblings, Kai and Kekoa, are now facing an unimaginable reality. The community is wrapping its arms around the Abelmann Ohana during this heartbreaking time.

The tragic incident unfolded in the Kailua-bound lanes of the highway. Honolulu police reported that the young girl was behind the wheel when she suddenly lost control of the vehicle. The car swerved violently and slammed directly into the right concrete barrier.

The impact was so severe that the vehicle went completely airborne over the barrier. It plunged fifty feet down into a deep ravine before smashing into an embankment. To make matters worse, the car immediately burst into flames upon impact.

First responders rushed to the scene but it was already too late. Investigators stated that Kalena was ejected from the vehicle into the ravine and died right there at the scene. Officers believe that driving too fast was a major factor, and they noted she was not wearing a seat belt.

In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign titled “Support for the Abelmann Ohana After Tragic Loss” took off online. Folks are chipping in quickly to help the family with funeral costs and sudden bills. By Saturday, kind strangers and friends had already raised over thirty-eight thousand dollars to help out.
