Shawn A. Williams Danville, IL: A quiet demolition turns tragic when a body is found in downtown construction work
Danville, IL — A routine demolition job in the city took a disturbing turn when workers uncovered a man’s body at a former business site on North Walnut Street. The discovery was made during work tied to planned building removals approved earlier in the year.
Authorities later identified the man as Shawn A. Williams, a 49-year-old resident of Danville. His identity was confirmed by the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office following initial recovery of the body from the site.
Police were called to 128 N. Walnut Street shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. The location was previously home to Studio 25, a business that had been closed and marked for demolition along with nearby structures.
When officers arrived, they found Williams deceased at the scene. Officials stated that his body had likely been at the location for an extended period before being discovered during the demolition process.
Investigators have not released details about how Williams died. The coroner’s office has only confirmed that autopsy results are still pending, and the cause of death remains under review.
Authorities also noted that the site where the body was found was part of a larger redevelopment plan. The properties at 124 and 128 North Walnut Street had been approved for demolition by the city’s Public Works Committee months earlier.
At this stage, both police and the coroner’s office are treating the case as an open investigation. They have not indicated whether foul play is suspected or ruled out.
Officials are asking anyone who may have information connected to the case to come forward and assist with the investigation as they continue working to establish what happened.
