FRANKLIN COUNTY, Miss. — A deadly collision at a familiar Franklin County intersection is drawing renewed attention after the death of Elmer Wallace Jr., 80, on the evening of February 9, 2026. The crash happened where Highway 33 crosses Highway 84 West, a spot locals know well.
Wallace was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on Highway 84 West when it collided with a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado. The Silverado was traveling north on Highway 33 and entered the crossing moments before the impact. Wallace did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The force of the collision sent shockwaves through the area. First responders arrived quickly, but the outcome was already clear. The scene was closed as authorities began their work and traffic was rerouted.
A passenger in Wallace’s Tahoe suffered injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The driver of the Silverado was also injured and transported for treatment. Officials have not shared updates on their medical conditions.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol is leading the investigation. Troopers are examining vehicle paths, road conditions, and timing at the crossing to piece together what happened during those final moments.
Behind the investigation is a family now facing a painful reality. Wallace, a Louisiana native, was known as a devoted family man who valued kindness and consistency. His death has left a lasting mark on those closest to him.
Community members continue to express sympathy and concern, not only for the family but for safety at the intersection itself. As the investigation continues, many are holding onto memories of Elmer Wallace Jr. while waiting for answers.
Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced when finalized, giving loved ones a chance to come together and honor a life that ended far too suddenly.
