Tucson, Ariz. — Antonio Olalde and Grace Hobbs Killed in Valencia Road Racing Crash

TUCSON, Ariz. — What began as a night out for four young people ended in heartbreak at East Valencia Road and South Country Club Road. On March 1, 2026, a high-speed crash claimed the lives of 20-year-old Antonio Olalde, 18-year-old Grace Hobbs, and the driver, 20-year-old Ashtyn Vandersloot.

Investigators say Vandersloot was driving a black BMW 750 eastbound on Valencia Road at what they describe as excessive speed. At the same time, a silver Buick Envision was turning left from westbound Valencia onto southbound Country Club. The two vehicles collided in the intersection with deadly results.

Police believe the BMW may have been racing another vehicle just moments before impact. Video evidence appears to show a second car traveling alongside Vandersloot. Detectives are now asking the public to help identify that vehicle and its driver.

Olalde and Hobbs were passengers in the BMW and died at the scene. A fourth passenger, a 19-year-old man, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital. His condition remains serious.

The 55-year-old driver of the Buick sustained minor injuries and remained at the scene. Officers say he is cooperating as the investigation continues. Authorities have confirmed that speed was a major contributing factor in the crash.

Family and friends of Olalde and Hobbs are struggling to process the sudden loss. Those who knew them describe them as young, full of plans, and surrounded by people who cared deeply for them. Their deaths have shaken classmates, coworkers, and neighbors across Tucson.

Police continue to piece together what happened in the seconds before impact. They are urging anyone with information about the suspected racing vehicle to call 911 or 88-CRIME anonymously. For now, three young lives are gone, one remains fighting to recover, and a community is left mourning a tragedy that happened in a matter of moments.
