Jacklyn Berry, Winthrop: Sunday morning argument ends in deadly shooting at family home

WINTHROP, Mass. — What started as a quiet Sunday morning inside a Beacon Street home quickly turned into a heartbreaking scene that left an entire Massachusetts community shaken. Authorities said 47-year-old Jacklyn Berry was fatally shot inside her residence after police received several frantic 911 calls reporting a disturbance and possible gun involvement.

According to investigators, officers rushed to 26 Beacon Street around 8:35 a.m. Sunday after neighbors reported hearing a loud argument coming from the home. Some callers warned dispatchers that a firearm might have been involved. By the time first responders arrived, the situation had already turned tragic.

Police said Berry was found suffering from a serious gunshot wound inside the residence. Emergency crews immediately began rendering aid while trying to stabilize her condition at the scene. She was then rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite those efforts, officials later confirmed she died from the injuries she suffered in the shooting.

Authorities identified her husband, 58-year-old Sean Brewer of Winthrop, as the suspect connected to the incident. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Brewer was later taken into custody and charged with manslaughter in connection with Berry’s death.

For much of Sunday, investigators remained gathered around the Beacon Street neighborhood as crime scene technicians collected evidence and detectives interviewed witnesses. Yellow police tape surrounded parts of the area while stunned neighbors watched investigators move in and out of the residence throughout the day.

People living nearby described the incident as deeply disturbing for a normally quiet coastal community just outside Boston. Many residents said they were struggling to process how a deadly domestic situation unfolded so suddenly inside a neighborhood home.

Officials have not yet released additional details about what may have led up to the shooting or what exactly happened inside the residence before police arrived. Investigators are continuing to piece together the moments leading to Berry’s death as the case moves through the court system.

Authorities said Brewer is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in East Boston Boston Municipal Court. Prosecutors indicated more details surrounding the investigation could be revealed during those proceedings. Until then, many questions surrounding the deadly shooting remain unanswered as Winthrop residents continue mourning the loss of Jacklyn Berry.
