Jacksonville Florida — A quiet early Monday morning turned tragic on I-295 southbound near Wilson Boulevard after a violent crash claimed the life of Nelly Wilson.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened just before 3 a.m. Wilson was driving an SUV when it left the roadway for reasons still under investigation. The vehicle hit several trees, then came back onto the highway before finally stopping against a guardrail.

Investigators said Wilson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The impact caused him to be thrown from the SUV. After that, he was struck by at least two passing vehicles on the highway.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash brought traffic on the southbound lanes to a complete stop for several hours as authorities secured the area.
The scene was later processed by crash reconstruction teams working to piece together exactly what led to the vehicle leaving the roadway. Officials have not said what may have caused the loss of control.
News of Wilson’s death spread quickly through Jacksonville, leaving family and friends in shock. Those close to him are remembering a life that ended suddenly in a moment that changed everything.
Loved ones are now focusing on memories rather than the crash itself, holding onto the moments they shared with him before that early morning tragedy.
Authorities say the investigation is still active as they work to understand the full sequence of events that led to the fatal crash.
