On the evening of February 27, a 14‑year‑old girl named Ikeria J. Jones was killed after being hit by a city bus on the east side of Indianapolis. Around 8:40 p.m., Indianapolis police were called to the 3800 block of North Post Road after reports of a serious crash. When officers arrived, they found Ikeria lying in the roadway. She had been struck by an IndyGo bus and was not breathing. Emergency crews rushed her to a nearby hospital. She later died from her injuries.
Witnesses told investigators that Ikeria was crossing North Post Road from west to east when she ran into the side of the northbound bus. Police said the street is wide and busy at that hour, with traffic moving fast. It appeared she was trying to reach the opposite side when the collision happened.

At the scene, officers noticed a woman who had been with Ikeria run from the area after the crash. Police say that woman is not currently a suspect in any crime, but detectives want to talk with her as part of the investigation. Officers have been reviewing video and speaking with others who saw what happened.
IndyGo released a statement saying it was aware one of its buses was involved in a fatal crash. The agency offered its condolences to Ikeria’s family and friends and said it is cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.
Neighbors and local pedestrians described feeling shaken. Some said they worry about how hard it can be to cross wide roads like Post Road safely, especially in the dark. Safety advocates have pointed to the crash as a reminder of how dangerous some crossings are for people on foot.
Friends and classmates of Ikeria remembered her as a bright and lively young person. They have been holding vigils and sharing memories of her kindness and laughter. A local fundraiser has also been organized to help her family with funeral costs and everyday bills as they cope with the sudden loss.
While police continue to investigate, city officials say there will be no charges until they understand exactly how the crash occurred. Officers are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
