Schaumburg, Illinois: Katherine Torbick Found Dead Inside Home After Welfare Check

Schaumburg, Illinois — A quiet suburban block turned into a crime scene after police discovered a woman dead inside her home during a welfare check late Thursday night.

Officers were called to the 1700 block of Weathersfield Way around 9:20 p.m. on April 30 after concerns were raised about the woman’s well-being. When they entered the residence, they found 43-year-old Katherine Torbick unresponsive.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities quickly secured the home and began an investigation into what had happened inside.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed that Torbick’s death was caused by strangulation. Her death was officially ruled a homicide, shifting the case into a full criminal investigation.

Investigators said a man was inside the home at the time officers arrived. He is believed to have known Torbick and was taken into custody for questioning.

Officials have not released his identity or age. They also have not confirmed whether any formal charges have been filed as of now.

Police say the situation appears to be isolated, and they do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public. The investigation is still active, with more updates expected as detectives piece together the final timeline of events.
