Adams Township, Defiance County, Ohio — A quiet rural evening turned into a nightmare when three vehicles collided on Domersville Road near Flory Road at about 9:04 p.m. Wednesday. The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a teenage driver heading north lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a van driven by 47‑year‑old Jennifer Bartlett of Alvordton. The force of the crash left both cars disabled and sent debris flying into a third vehicle, a GMC Sierra.
Bartlett was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. A passenger in her vehicle, 40‑year‑old Robert Sabo III, also unrestrained, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital before being transferred by air ambulance for higher‑level care. The teenage driver of the Malibu was also seriously hurt, unrestrained, and flown to a children’s hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Sierra, who was wearing a seat belt, walked away from the crash without injury. Local emergency responders from fire departments, EMS units, the sheriff’s office, and air medical crews worked together to secure the scene and assist the injured.
Friends and neighbors remember Bartlett as a devoted mother and active member of the community. In the hours after the crash, tributes poured in from people whose lives she touched, from coworkers at local businesses to families from church groups. The sudden loss has rippled through the area, prompting conversations about how fragile life can be on rural roads after dark.
Investigators have not yet released final findings, but they noted that none of the three injured or killed were wearing seat belts, except for the unharmed Sierra driver. Authorities reminded drivers that simple safety steps, like buckling up and avoiding distractions, are crucial on all drives.
For Bartlett’s loved ones, the shock of her sudden death has been made heavier by the circumstances. Family members described her as someone who always put others first, and this week they’ve been surrounded by an outpouring of support from people who say they will remember her generous spirit.
In the days ahead, local leaders hope the community can find healing and that driving habits will change in response to this heartbreaking event. As residents lay flowers and share memories, there’s a shared wish that no more families have to endure a loss like this on a quiet Ohio road.
