Ocala Marion Springs: Nancy Bacon, Daughter Eden Killed by Ralph Bacon in Murder-Suicide

The quiet halls of Marion Springs Condominiums in Ocala turned into a crime scene Tuesday night after gunshots shattered the calm. Inside a unit at 3575 SE Ft. King St., police found 34-year-old Nancy Bacon and her 4-year-old daughter, Eden, shot to death. Hours later, Nancy’s estranged husband, 38-year-old Ralph Bacon, was dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a traffic stop in Georgia.

Ocala Police said officers rushed to the complex around 9:16 p.m. after reports of gunfire. When they entered the condominium, they discovered the bodies of Nancy and her young daughter. Neighbors told officers they saw Ralph Bacon speeding away in a dark SUV with North Carolina plates shortly after the shots rang out.

Investigators quickly issued a regional alert. Using license plate reader technology, authorities tracked the SUV heading north. The chase ended near the Florida-Georgia line in Kingsland. As officers closed in, Bacon shot himself before they could take him into custody, according to Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken.

Police described the killings as a domestic incident. Eden was not Ralph Bacon’s biological child, and authorities said that fact was a key point of tension in the relationship. Records show Bacon had been on probation in Georgia for prior threats and brandishing a firearm. That probation was set to run through July 2025.

The couple’s history stretched back years. Reports indicate Nancy was 16 and Ralph was 21 when they married. They divorced in 2016 but later rekindled their relationship around the holidays. Friends say the relationship had been strained, though the full picture of what led to Tuesday’s violence remains under investigation.

No other residents were injured, and police assured the public there was no ongoing threat once the suspect was located. Still, the shock lingers in the community. Neighbors described Nancy as devoted to her daughter. The sight of patrol cars and crime scene tape outside what had been an ordinary home left many shaken.

Investigators continue piecing together the final hours before the shooting. For now, a mother and her young child are gone, and a troubled relationship has ended in the most tragic way possible.
