A domestic dispute that began inside an Ocala condominium ended in a fatal traffic stop just across the Florida-Georgia line. Authorities say 38-year-old Ralph Bacon shot and killed his estranged wife, Nancy Bacon, and her 4-year-old daughter before taking his own life as police closed in.
Officers were called to Marion Springs Condominiums on SE Ft. King Street around 9:16 p.m. Tuesday night after neighbors reported gunfire. Inside the residence, police found 34-year-old Nancy Bacon and her daughter, Eden, dead from gunshot wounds. Witnesses told investigators they saw Ralph Bacon leave the complex in a dark SUV with North Carolina license plates.

Law enforcement quickly launched a regional search. Using license plate reader systems, officers tracked the vehicle heading north toward Georgia. The pursuit came to a halt in Kingsland. As officers approached his SUV, Bacon shot himself, ending the chase before an arrest could be made.
Police said the case appears to be rooted in domestic conflict. Eden was not Ralph Bacon’s biological child, and investigators described that issue as a significant source of tension in the relationship. Court records show Bacon had been on probation in Georgia for prior threats and gun brandishing, with supervision scheduled to continue through July 2025.
The couple had a long and complicated history. They married when Nancy was 16 and Ralph was 21. The marriage ended in divorce in 2016, but the pair reunited sometime during the recent holiday season. What happened between that reunion and Tuesday night’s violence remains under investigation.
Authorities stressed that no one else was harmed and that there is no ongoing danger to the community. Still, the tragedy has left neighbors stunned. What began as an evening like any other ended with flashing lights, sirens, and a family torn apart.
Police continue to review evidence and reconstruct the timeline. The deaths of Nancy and her young daughter mark the painful center of a case that now stretches from a quiet Ocala condominium to a roadside stop in Georgia, ending with three lives lost in a matter of hours.
