Rome, Georgia — A quiet early Sunday morning turned deadly on North Broad Street NE after a shooting outside a Family Dollar store left a young man dead.
It happened just after midnight on April 19, around 12:42 a.m., when Rome police officers were called to reports of gunfire at the retail location.

When officers arrived, they found 22-year-old Chancellore Jabez Donaldson suffering from a gunshot wound near the store entrance.
Emergency crews rushed Donaldson to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he later died from his injuries.
Police say the scene quickly shifted from emergency response to a homicide investigation as detectives began collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses in the area.
After reviewing leads and evidence, investigators identified 25-year-old Chancelor Lamar Crawford as the suspect believed to be responsible for the shooting.
Authorities later obtained warrants charging Crawford with felony murder in connection with Donaldson’s death.
Police describe Crawford as armed and dangerous, warning that he may be in northwest Georgia or possibly in the metro Atlanta area as the search continues.
Investigators are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the Rome Police Department at 706-238-5111, call 911, or submit an anonymous tip through 706-236-5000.
