Najee Hardaway, a 26-year-old fourth grade teacher at Lomond Elementary School, has died following a car crash in Cleveland. His death has left the Shaker Heights community in deep shock.

Hardaway was pronounced dead at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. Records from the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner confirmed he died after the crash, though further details about the circumstances of the collision were not immediately released.

He was a familiar and respected figure at Lomond Elementary, where he worked with young students and was known for bringing energy and patience into the classroom every day. Colleagues described him as deeply committed to his students.

Before becoming a teacher, Hardaway was a standout basketball player at the College of Wooster. He earned recognition for his defense, discipline, and leadership on the court, where he built a strong reputation among teammates and coaches.

He was also a graduate of Shaker Heights High School. During his school years, he played under longtime coach Danny Young and was already known locally for his dedication to the game.

News of his passing was shared by the Shaker Heights City School District in a message to families. The district described him as an outstanding educator who cared deeply for both his students and the school community.

The district also announced that counselors would be made available at Lomond Elementary. This was to help students and staff process the loss and cope with grief in the days following the tragedy.

Former teammates, students, and community members have continued to share tributes, remembering him as competitive on the court, kind in everyday life, and proud to return to teach in the same community where he grew up.
