Isawan Foster was identified by Columbus police as the 33-year-old man shot and killed by officers on the city’s Near East Side late Tuesday night. The incident unfolded just before midnight along the 800 block of Wilson Avenue, not far from Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Police said officers were approaching an apartment building in the area when they heard gunfire coming from inside or near the structure. The situation escalated within moments as they moved closer to assess what was happening.

According to investigators, Foster came out of a doorway holding a gun and was actively firing shots toward the building. Officers immediately confronted him in the tense encounter.
Two officers discharged their weapons, striking Foster during the confrontation. After the shooting, officers reportedly moved in and began providing first aid at the scene.
Emergency responders later transported Foster to Grant Medical Center. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A second man, identified by police as 32-year-old Brandon Wade, was taken into custody at the scene. He now faces charges related to domestic violence and assault tied to the same incident.
Columbus police have not released the identities of the two officers involved in the sh
ooting. Authorities confirmed one officer has six years of service, while the other has been with the department for two years.
The case remains under investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Officials say more details, including possible video evidence, are expected to be released as the inquiry continues.
