A quiet early morning ride turned tragic in New York’s Southern Tier when 39-year-old Warren O. Loza of Vestal lost his life in a motorcycle crash in the Town of Owego.
According to investigators, the collision happened shortly before 4 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Forest Hill Road and State Route 434. Authorities said Loza was riding his motorcycle along Route 434 when an SUV entered the roadway.

State Police said the SUV driver apparently did not see the approaching motorcycle before pulling onto the highway. Loza was unable to avoid the vehicle, and his motorcycle crashed into the SUV.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene after reports of the collision. First responders immediately attempted life-saving measures, but Loza suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. Authorities said the driver has been cooperating with investigators as they work to determine exactly what happened during the moments leading up to the crash.
Loza was a resident of Vestal, a community in neighboring Broome County that is part of the Greater Binghamton area. News of his death has added another layer of sorrow to a region where motorcycle riders frequently travel the scenic roads connecting communities throughout the Southern Tier.
The intersection where the crash occurred serves as an important connection between Tioga and Broome counties. Traffic moves through the area daily, but the collision happened during pre-dawn hours when visibility can often be reduced.
Investigators have not announced whether speed, impairment, weather, or any other factors played a role in the crash. No enforcement actions have been reported, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Motorcycle crashes involving vehicles entering roadways are often among the most severe because riders have little protection during impact. State Police continue to examine evidence from the scene as they work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision that claimed Loza’s life.
