It was supposed to be a normal Tuesday evening out on the water. Instead, a tragic turn of events at a local boat ramp ended up claiming the life of a man who spent his entire career saving others. Michael Lindsay, a well-known retired paramedic supervisor, died when his truck plunged into the river.
The whole thing went down right at the public boat access near the base of the Bagnell Dam. Around 6:30 p.m., Lindsay was backing his 2016 Ram truck and trailer down into the water. Everything seemed completely normal at first.

A sixty-six-year-old woman from Clark, Missouri, was helping him out. She drove the boat right up onto the trailer like usual. Then, she walked over to the front of the boat to lock it down and secure everything.
That is when things took a terrifying turn. The truck and trailer didn’t stop moving. It suddenly kept rolling backward right into the deep water, knocking the woman flat down between the truck and the trailer before going completely under.
The woman managed to escape with just minor injuries, and emergency crews rushed her straight to the hospital. But Lindsay could not get out of the sinking truck. Divers later recovered his body from the water, and the coroner pronounced him dead right there at the scene.
Folks in the community are absolutely devastated by the news. Lindsay was not just anyone; he was a beloved supervisor and paramedic for the Callaway County Ambulance District for three whole decades. He spent his life training the next generation of lifesavers.
The Miller County Coroner’s Office says the whole thing looks like a terrible accident with no foul play suspected. It is a heartbreaking reminder of how fast a great day outside can turn into a nightmare, leaving a local community mourning a true hometown hero.
