What started as a worried phone call from a family member turned into a tragedy that has left a small Alabama community searching for answers.
Authorities in Lauderdale County say Kelsey Rebekah King, 35, and Charles Wilson King, 40, were found dead inside their home in the Anderson community on Saturday morning after deputies were asked to conduct a welfare check.

According to Sheriff Joe Hamilton, deputies arrived at the residence on County Road 93 around 8:46 a.m. after relatives reported they had been unable to reach one of the residents for several hours. Concern quickly grew when repeated attempts to make contact failed.
When deputies entered the home, they found both Kelsey and Charles deceased inside a bedroom. Investigators also recovered a firearm from the scene as they began processing evidence and documenting what had happened inside the residence.
Officials later confirmed that Charles King suffered a single gunshot wound. Authorities have not yet released the official causes and manners of death for either individual. Both bodies were transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville, where autopsies are expected to provide a clearer picture of the final moments leading up to the tragedy.
Investigators believe the person responsible for the incident is one of the two individuals who died inside the home. However, law enforcement has not publicly disclosed additional details while the investigation remains active.
Sheriff Hamilton noted that deputies had never previously responded to the residence for any reported disturbances or incidents. That detail has only deepened the shock felt by people who knew the couple and those living nearby in the quiet Anderson community.
As investigators continue gathering evidence and awaiting forensic results, loved ones are left grieving two lives lost under devastating circumstances. Friends and family members are remembering Kelsey and Charles while hoping the ongoing investigation will eventually provide answers about exactly what happened inside the home that Saturday morning.
