Hughes Springs Bryson Belk: Teen athlete’s sudden death in car crash leaves community in mourning

Bryson Belk, a 19-year-old from Hughes Springs, lost his life Wednesday morning in a car crash. He was known locally as a dedicated youth athlete and a steady volunteer in community sports programs.

News of his death first spread through posts shared by his church and local youth sports organization. The announcement described a sudden loss that left family, friends, and teammates in shock.

First Baptist Church in Hughes Springs asked members to pray for the Belk family. The church message said Bryson “went to be with the Lord this morning in a car accident” and called for a special prayer service that same evening.

The church also shared scripture meant to comfort those grieving. Members were encouraged to lean on faith during what was described as a painful and unexpected moment for the congregation.
The Hughes Springs Youth Sports Association also confirmed his death. The group said its members were heartbroken and reflected on his long involvement in local baseball, where he grew up playing in Little League.

Over the years, Bryson served in different roles within the league. He played as a child, later became an umpire, and most recently worked as a youth baseball coach for a 12U team, mentoring younger players.

Tributes from friends and relatives described him as loyal, grounded, and deeply committed to helping others. Funeral arrangements are still pending through Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.
